Commercial Estates Group (CEG) was granted outline planning permission to regenerate the former Kirkstall Forge in July 2007. This exciting mixed-use scheme will bring back to life the 400 year old industrial site and deliver a sustainable community by:
- Creating a railway station on the site to link Kirkstall Forge to Leeds City Centre and the Yorkshire Dales
- Improving the environmental quality of the site
- Creating approximately 1,400 jobs
- Conserving and enhancing the site’s heritage
- Improving public access into and around the site
- Providing a range of houses, apartments, local shops, cafés, restaurants, services and offices
Location
The 56 acre site is located on the A65, just 5km north west of Leeds City Centre. The site is in a unique location in a hidden wooded valley adjacent to the River Aire and Leeds & Liverpool Canal. As part of the planning application, CEG is committing £4m for a new railway station on site to connect Kirkstall Forge to Leeds City Centre and the Yorkshire Dales. A plan illustrating the location of the site can be viewed by clicking here.
The Project Team
A substantial team of more than 10 professional consultants have worked on the Kirkstall Forge development to undertake extensive research into heritage, environmental, ecological, transport and landscape issues and opportunities. Consultancies ranging from ecological specialists and archaeological experts to architects and geologists have been, and continue to be, involved in this ground-breaking project. The team also undertook extensive consultation to ensure local residents could incorporate their views into the planning submission. For more information, visit www.ceg.co.uk.
