CEG has been keen to engage with the local community and stakeholders from day one. Prior to the submission of an outline planning application in 2005, CEG held four public exhibitions as well as open planning surgeries. A Kirkstall Forge liaison group was also created, which incorporated the elected representatives of the Kirkstall community, Leeds City Council and other community groups.

Following the submission and acceptance of its outline planning application, CEG has continued to meet with the liaison group regularly and has held further public exhibitions. In both 2005 and 2007 CEG welcomed thousands of local people to a marquee at the Kirkstall Festival, with members of the development team on hand to answer questions.
