WELCOME

Welcome to the website for The Forge, Kirkstall. The website provides background information and the latest news on the exciting proposed mixed-use redevelopment of The Forge, a former industrial site in north-west Leeds.

The Forge will:

  • improve the environmental quality of the site,
  • directly create approximately 1,540 jobs,
  • conserve and enhance the site’s heritage,
  • improve public access within and through the site, and
  • provide a range of houses, apartments and local shops and services.

This website is currently under development and some sections are not yet complete. Please return for updates on the progress of the proposals and future improvements to the website.

Location

The site comprises almost 23 hectares of land in total, lying approximately 6km (3.7miles) north west of Leeds City Centre. The site stretches from north-west to south-east between the Leeds to Shipley/Ilkley Railway and the A65 Abbey Road. It can also be seen from the River Aire and the Leeds & Liverpool canal. A plan illustrating the location of the site can be viewed by clicking here.

The Project Team

Commercial Estates Group (CEG), established in 1989, bought the site in 2003 and has a portfolio of 91 property projects with a total value of over half a billion pounds. CEG specialises in regeneration projects and is a commercial, residential and mixed-use property company with offices in London, Harrogate and Cornwall. As with its other projects, CEG is committed to creating a high quality development through working with local communities. For more information, visit www.ceg.co.uk.

CEG has undertaken extensive research into heritage, environmental, ecological, transport and landscape issues and opportunities. More than 10 different consultancies ranging from ecological specialists and archaeological experts to architects and geologists have been involved in this ground-breaking project to date. The team has also worked with local residents and undertaken many community events to allow the people of Leeds to put their views into the planning application.
